A sequel Rush Hour 2, was made in 2001.
Rumors continually claim that a second sequel, Rush Hour 3, is in the works; it would feature the two in New York and Paris. However, no significant progress has been made on the film. Jackie Chan reported in July 2005 that the reason there had been no progress in making the movie was because Chris Tucker was making too many demands that the movie company would not grant.
Chan plays a detective inspector Lee, who has been sent to America from Hong Kong to investigate the kidnapping of Chinese consul Han's daughter, Soo Young. However, the FBI (who are working on the case themselves) do not want an outsider like Lee to interfere with their investigation so they palm him off with LAPD detective, James Carter (played by Tucker); a fast talking and comically arrogant police officer. When Lee and Carter realise they are being used, they set out to solve the case themselves.
